About 1 hour west of Guadalajara, near the city of Teuchitlan, lies the archaeological zone of the Guachimontones, an ancient ceremonial pre-Hispanic settlement. This special tour will take you to see the unique archaeological site, and also visit the colonial town of Mascota, located at the foot of the Sierra Madre Occidental mountain range at an elevation of nearly 5,000 feet. The tour is full of history, architecture, culture and scenery. THIS TOUR IS TEMPORARILY UNAVAILABLE After a nice breakfast, we will head out to Teuchitlan, refreshing ourselves with drinks and fruit in the air-conditioned vehicle. We will tour the Guachimontones site and head to Mascota, a picturesque and enchanting colonial town, surrounded by a rainforest of pine trees, holm trees and other species. Mascota is well-preserved with its cobblestone streets, charming old houses with red-roof tiles and haciendas from the 19th century. Here we will visit interesting cultural, religious, architectural and archaeological places, including the Lady of Los Dolores Church, Sangre Preciosa (an unfinished temple from the 17th century), the Main Square of Mascota and the Museum. You'll also have the opportunity to buy candies and sweets made by locals with natural fruits from the area. Cruise Passengers: This tour makes a great shore excursion if your ship's schedule allows.
